Where it all began Around seven years ago, after around twelve months away from the game that had given him so much joy; a young man by the name of Trent Hayes decided that this time he would not leave anything to chance... His wife Lisa was intrigued in the game after watching a Battle System (tm) game between her husband & a friend of his named Victor had played on their lounge room floor. Trent noticed this & asked if she would help him get a world that had been being added to via BBS input for a few years. He needed a woman's touch to add the finer details to flesh it out... Three months later Traehaverfeld was not the only area one could visit along the Terraland coast. Thousands of square miles were mapped, vague borders, political & religious beliefs for each region were decided on before the new design would be released to their waiting gamers across the BBS worlds. Over the next seven years the ZARLAW News Letter was born, the name ZARLAW was taken from the first letters of each of the characters involved in that fateful campaign. The news letter was designed after Trent found how hard it was to find fellow players that lived relatively close to him. His only means was getting an expensive ad in a local news paper. Something had to be done & the ZARLAW News Letter would be his cure for the gamers of Sydney. ...but Sydney wasn't enough. Soon he was getting orders through the various game shops that would stock the news letter & soon ZARLAW was going to Victoria, Queensland & across the Tasman sea to New Zealand. In the winter of 1998 Trent decided that he wanted to say more with ZARLAW. The fans were constantly asking for a magazine format, which could easily be filled from the subscribers letters of ideas & questions. ZARLAW Magazine started to take shape.
What we stand for ZARLAW was designed to give gamers across Australia & New Zealand the chance to meet each other via a less expensive medium than the local news papers. To wit: Through the magazine & now our bulletin page on this web site; ZARLAW will keep prices of submitting advertising by gamers to a minimum We will keep at least 60% readers content, enabling the "Average Joe(or JANE!)" to have their thoughts published. Granting successful scenario/article writers high royalty rates for reprinting their work for future module publications. To keep at least 70% of content from the Southern Hemisphere (primarily from Australia & New Zealand) We will listen to our readers. The Southern Gamers have such great taste after all-they buy our magazine & keep us in business!
Traehaverfeld Traehaverfeld (meaning three safe harbors in Halfling) was the first city designed in Terraland. Historically it is a very new city, bring not more than three human generations old. It's structures were built over the ruins of an ancient city that was held by the Ice Queen's faithful up until that time. Of the ancient city, only Mage Tower still remains completely intact. It's secrets known by none who have lived to tell the tale; if any hardy souls exist at all. A bustling trading city, it was until recently the Empires brightest gem next to the Empirical capital of Tyoll. Indeed it was the jealousy of Tyoll I that led to the war that now imperils the citizens of the western coast of Terraland. A bustling trading city; Traehaverfeld seemingly bursts with wealth & activity. A visitor to the great southern city could easily forget that a war seethes to the north, brought on by this very city's sucession from the empire after unearthing plans of the empire's to ruin the Traevian economy until an Empirical governor could come to "save the day". It could almost be forgotten until one gets within a half mile of the city's most prominent temple. That of Rososhi-God of just war. Thousands of new recruits-Traevian Marines-train at & around this center of military training. preparing for the not too distant call to the front; whether that be near the empirical border, some four months march, or on the high seas. The Traevian marines are tought to fight on any imaginable battle field. A place of high adventure, Traehaverfeld is quite the place to be if one wants to make a name for one's self if blade or spell is a specialty...
