Welcome To Zarlaw

The many people that have been submitted over the years have ranged from NPCs to "fill" a campaign, to Larger than life Heroes & Villains... Below are some(BY NO MEANS COMPLETE) of the most popular NPC Characters.

The Villains of a campaign are often the most memorable parts of an adventure. At least they should be. Many GMs have either no time to flesh out the arch nemesis of the player characters, or no inclination-which is more the pity.

So what do you do when the GM doesn't turn up? When you have to fill in as GM at a moment's notice, we have you at least partly covered. Take a look at these guys & gals:

Ramanth

Aristinne

Rathe the Usurper

Ellienne o' Cardille

Venille o' Carin

Baron Aldus of Milton

The Traevian Shadow

Welcome to the Characters & Events page

Ramanth is often known as the 'Mercenary Mage'. He has fought in countless battles & considered to be one of the finest tacticians in the land. He has only known defeat once & it was then that his true colours showed. Near the beginning of the first clash between the two forces, his side ( The Cryatt Brigade) lost just one thousand of their troops to the opposition's two thousand, yet as Ramanth analyzed the tactics of the opposing general & watched as the forces he was hired to aid ignored his suggested tactics, he knew the army would lose.

He sent an invisible messenger to the opposing general, setting up a deal. The opposing general couldn't believe his luck & agreed to the exorbitant terms laid before him.

Ramanth took to the air as he had previously planned, but instead of decimating the lead ranks of the opposing force, he struck at the rear of his own, sending them into confusion as blast after blast of fiery death crashed into the army Ramanth had aided for the last three seasons in successful battle. The chaos caused was devastating & the general of The Cryatt Brigade tried to order the archers to attack his own mage, but powerful shields around the wizard meant that all that was accomplished was a loss of valuable time as the mercenary army against him; The Crimson Axes, were able to crush his army & him within a mere moments as the now superior forces plowed into The Cryatt Brigade's elite pikemen with little resistance.

As you can see Ramanth's actions are dictated by profit & pride. He will not openly support an action his great tactical mind feels he can not win. However he may accept payment for advice so long as he is not officially sided with either faction. Indeed he has been known to play each side of a battle like a game of chess to test tactical movements; neither side's leaders realizing the other side has had 'advice' from the mage as well as his own...

He was last seen with The Crimson Axes along with another mercenary band heading to strike at the Traevian troops. No word has passed as to whether they reached their destination or if battle was joined.

Aristinne was first apprenticed to a wealthy Tyollish family's court wizard, in the hopes of taking over a similar role with a lightly lower standing family. She stayed on with the Gellen's wizard for five years before Argarille (the wizard) decided she was ready to sit before the Court Arcanas in the Tyollish capital; Tyoll City.

Aristinne had other ideas however & poisoned Argarille's wine the night before the trip. Chaos ensued at the Gellen estate as they realized their magical might being so lessened, could mean a rival family may make their position within the newly changed political climate between the Tyollish Council families.

Keeping the event silent they called for tutors to their compound to invest more time into Aristinne, hoping that this along with her training with Argarille would sit her in good stead to defend against other families' plots against the Gellens. They never guessed it was Aristinne as they could not see how one so young would sabotage her own 'coming of age' within the Mage Society of the Tyollish Empire. Which is exactly what Aristinne had expected with the political uncertainty brought about by the young Emperor who had changed his name to mirror the Empire he ruled.... a young Tyoll I!

Aristinne has entrenched herself in the Tyollish political web. Her influence has grown over the last ten years to the point that her words were held in high esteem by the Emporer himself before his untimely 'abdication'. She was last seen at the Gellen estate awaiting the hordes of mercenaries, in case they dared to try to breach the Gellen estate walls. Doubtless she will make sure she is in good standing with whom so ever finds themselves ruling Tyoll after the coming conflicts. The Gellen family riding on her coat-tales all the way...

Rathe the Usurper is a callous craven example of a member of the Tyollish Empirical Court. His family was killed during a rebellion on the northern islands whereupon the new Emporer set down the now legendary Island Laws to protect his representatives in the Tyollish held tropical island kingdoms off the north western Terraland coast.
