Since before the last decade of the twentieth century, when
BBS's rather than the "Internet" ruled the PCs of ardent online gamers, a pebble was dropped... A young
man asked to join a campaign.
The DM said "it would be a bit hard, you'll have to come
up with a story to fit in with the backgrounds of the others, it's based loosely around the Arthurian Legends..."
Perplexed the young man said "Couldn't he be an outworlder,
as the only character the same level I have is an oriental based character. He could come from over the sea..."
The DM typed back across the Chat Channel "Sorry but I
haven't done much mapping or history beyond 100 or so miles of the 'England' I have created."
"Hmmm I have an idea...." The young man said. The
seed was born, he had dreamed of a huge world based in the Southern Hemisphere, but the task was wearing on his
social life (and Zarlaw wasn't even a sparkle in this DMs eye)...what if he asked for help...got submissions from
other gamers on the various BBSs he was a member of.
Terraland was BORN!

Add your army to the Empirical Conflict
"I had traveled for three months, gathering intelligence
for the council of Traehaverfeld.
It had been an unnerving experience to say the least. Every petty lord had either sided with the Empire or the newly formed Traevian
Alliance, or made very obvious their neutrality in the whole affair. That
much was well known, but the disturbing facts I would have to soon relay were; strange forces moving this way or
that way, completely unrelated, yet strangers to the coastal lands. My only thought was that they were like the
strange birds from the desert that waited until a man was too weak to move, or already dead before setting into
the act of eating his flesh...waiting to see who would win this terrible war!
More recently & with more regularity as I have headed north,
I have heard ever increasing estimations of the Empirical forces. Starting at one hundred thousand, they seemed modest, or only to include the core
of the Empirical troops we already
knew about. I began to think that the Emperor
had decided not to risk enough men so as to leave himself unguarded. After a few more wayside inns & chapels
to this or that god, I started to wonder which tales were reality & which were fireside tales. Tales of so
many troops as would fill three horizons. So many that they had to keep apart so as not to threaten each other's
resources. It had to be exaggeration. It had to be...
This morning I saw them...just before dawn, the lazy haze of
woodsmoke creating a dirty orange scar on the sun's rise to meet the azure sky of day. At first I thought there
must have been a forest fire through the area, such was the thickness of the smoke to my nose after so long in
the saddle away from large towns & settlements. When I could focus on the site of what was once Frabintus (a town of some twenty thousand men women
& children) I saw the centre of the army. Spread out to cover a size twenty
times the diametre of Frabintus, a veritable horde sat waiting for the Traevian forces to show their faces. Already messenger horsemen were moving to & fro between
the main tents in what was once the hillside town I had visited only last Planting; barely four months earlier.
Then I saw a second mass closer to the western shores of the Cairvalle
Sea. More plumes broke the sky above the craggy shore I had trod in innocence
as a youth thirty years ago.
The worst I could imagine, or so I thought until a huge shadow
lurched across my own. I looked up to see a bird flying very low...NO it was a huge flyer travelling quite high.
The rider a spec against the beast's huge expanse. It was a 'RED'! A Red Dragon
leading twelve of it's bretheren,
oblivious to a certain Traevian
spy as he took to his horse & rode for all he was worth towards the south & the Traevian forces that gathered there...oblivious to me."
An exerpt from Astrin Courer's journal, found scorched almost beyond reading three miles south of Arronville. Just ten
miles north of the Traevian forces'
rally point.
Set to be the largest battle via e-mail, over one
& one third million troops may ride into the Traevian held lands of the temperate south.
The Emperor is dead!(?) but even with his absence over a million
troops gather & argue over whether they should still complete his
last orders & crush the Traevian
allies.
